Rio Ferdinand changes his mind and predicts who'll win Chelsea v Madrid clash

Former United player Rio Ferdinand suggested Chelsea will defeat Real Madrid in the Champions League tomorrow if they play with pace and energy while speaking on Vibe with Five.

Chelsea were outstanding in the first leg and the 1-1 scoreline didn’t match their dominance.

Christian Pulisic’s composed finish was just one of several great chances Thomas Tuchel’s team created out, but it was the only one they converted.

Real Madrid will look to capitalize on Chelsea’s wasteful nature when they travel to Stamford Bridge on Wednesday evening.

Chelsea have an away goal advantage heading to this clash, which could prove crucial in the determination of which team goes forward.

However, Ferdinand supposed that there would be just one result if Tuchel’s team came out fighting.

“After watching Madrid play and navigate their way past Liverpool, I thought the experience would be telling for Madrid (against Chelsea),” admitted the former Manchester United defender.

“But, the way Chelsea play at a high pace, Real Madrid can’t live with it. If they play at a high pace again and go for it again, I think they overrun this Madrid team.

“I think it will be a Chelsea (Manchester) City final. I actually went the other way, I thought it would be a Madrid v PSG final, but not any more.”

Los Blancos team have been set back by the injuries with both Raphael Varane, Lucas Vazquez, and Dani Carvajal possibly sidelined.

There are also concerns over Ferland Mendy and Sergio Ramos’ fitness, whilst Federico Valverde is still going through covid19 isolation protocols.

This leaves Zidane tolerably short of guaranteed options in his squad, which is in stark contrast to the breadth of talent at Tuchel’s disposal.

Mateo Kovacic is still out due to a hamstring problem, whilst Antonio Rudiger sat out the weekend’s win over Fulham because of a minor facial issue.

Other than that, the Blues has a full bill of health to report back on and Rudiger will hopefully return to face Madrid.
