Revealed: The WhatsApp messages Man Utd’s players were sending regarding Arsenal before Liverpool humiliation

Manchester United players had reportedly exchanged messages on WhatsApp discussing their pursuit of Premier League leaders Arsenal, but the team suffered a crushing 7-0 defeat by Liverpool on Sunday.

The defeat was particularly severe as Liverpool scored six of their goals in the second half, making it United’s worst defeat since 1931.

This came just a week after the team won the Carabao Cup final against Newcastle United, ending a six-year trophy drought. Prior to the Liverpool game, United had been on an impressive 11-game unbeaten streak, including a victory over Barcelona in the Europa League and progression to the FA Cup quarter-final.

Although Manchester United is still in contention for trophies in European and domestic cup competitions, it is now highly unlikely for them to win the Premier League.

As things stand, they are 14 points behind the league leaders Arsenal, meaning that they would need to stage a remarkable comeback to win the title.

The  Mail Online reported that Manchester United players had started to believe that winning the Premier League title was a realistic goal for this season.

They even discussed the possibility of overtaking Arsenal, who were leading the table at the time, in their WhatsApp group.

However, the crushing defeat they suffered at Liverpool effectively ended their chances of challenging for the title, and exposed weaknesses within the team.

Despite their recent defeat at Liverpool, Manchester United have shown weaknesses away from home, conceding three or more goals against rivals such as Arsenal and Manchester City, according to reports.

However, former United captain Gary Neville believes that the recent defeat was an unusual and unexpected result, and that the team has made significant improvements this season.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Neville stated that since Erik ten Hag took over as manager and Ronaldo left the team, the players have been more united and determined.

“They’ve fought every game, every single week Wednesday, Saturday, Wednesday, Sunday, and they’ve been fighting every single match. I’ve seen it with my own eyes – that second half in the last two or three months since they sorted the dressing room out is a freak.”
