Revealed: The player Benfica asked Chelsea for as part of Enzo Fernandez transfer
This week, Chelsea broke the British transfer record by acquiring Enzo Fernandez from Benfica.
This week, the Blues were able to successfully acquire the world-class midfielder in the final hours before the transfer deadline.
It was a major coup, and the club wanted to secure his services this month, before any other clubs formed this summer.
Everyone has their own version of how the transaction transpired, and we have read so many conflicting reports about it.
One of the allegations was that Chelsea was attempting to include players in the deal. Obviously, this did not transpire, but it was apparently discussed.
Benfica allegedly demanded Mateo Kovacic in exchange, according to a Portuguese document. This was obviously flatly rejected by Chelsea, and no player ultimately moved in the opposite direction.

After spending a fortune during the previous two transfer windows, Chelsea is now expected to concentrate on selling off a few of their players.
According to a report from The Guardian, the Blues are prepared to part ways with Mateo Kovacic. In the winter transfer window, they have already sold one of their stars, Jorginho, to Arsenal.
Graham Potter is expected to receive support from Chelsea during this transitional period. The Englishman would love to give his new players more playing time.
As a result, few of their veteran players will have to look elsewhere for employment. And Mateo Kovacic is on the list of players who are likely to leave the Blues before the beginning of the following season.
