Revamped Liverpool Squad for the Upcoming Season: Khephren Thuram Joins and Five-Man Overhaul
Liverpool have wasted no time in strengthening their team for the upcoming season, having already signed Alexis Mac Allister, and discussions are underway for the potential acquisition of Khephren Thuram from Nice.Â
SportsDias examines the potential composition of Jurgen Klopp’s squad at the beginning of the next season, considering a total of five transfers.
Goalkeepers: Alisson, Adrian, ZIELER
Caomhin Kelleher became dissatisfied last year due to limited playing time, and it seems Liverpool may be open to his departure if the right offer comes along. Despite Adrian set to renew his contract, a new goalkeeper will be required as a replacement for the Irish player.
In addition, Liverpool must consider meeting the homegrown player requirements for their Premier League squad. Ron-Robert Zieler could be a suitable candidate in this regard, as he fulfills the criteria.
The Hannover goalkeeper has previous experience in England, including a stint with Manchester United during his youth. It’s possible that Zieler could be acquired at a reduced price to serve as a backup to Alisson.
Defenders: Alexander-Arnold, Ramsey, Gomez, Matip, COLWILL, Van Dijk, Konate, Robertson, Tsimikas
Jurgen Klopp will likely be eager to have Calvin Ramsey at his disposal for the upcoming season, following a debut campaign marred by injuries on Merseyside. While a backup right-back is needed to provide cover for Trent Alexander-Arnold, Ramsey should be capable of fulfilling that role after undergoing a full pre-season of training to regain his fitness.
In terms of the central defense, Liverpool may consider making changes. Levi Colwill is believed to be a prime target as he would also contribute to fulfilling Liverpool’s homegrown player quota in the future. Chelsea might be cautious about selling to a direct rival, but there have been suggestions that a fee in the region of £40 million could be sufficient to secure the deal.
Midfielders: Fabinho, Bajcetic, Thiago, Henderson, MAC ALLISTER, THURAM, KONE, Elliott, Jones
The midfield is where significant changes are expected to take place for Liverpool, as evidenced by the signing of Mac Allister in a £35 million deal. The club is also reportedly engaged in discussions with Thuram and Manu Kone.
Thuram and Kone, both from France, are currently preparing for the Under-21 European Championships, which commence later this month. If Liverpool manages to secure the signings of these two players, in addition to Mac Allister, it would result in a direct replacement of Naby Keita, James Milner, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. This suggests a major overhaul of Liverpool’s midfield options.
Attackers: Diaz, Gakpo, Jota, Salah, Nunez
There is no necessity to make changes in the attacking department, as Liverpool already possesses one of the most formidable forward lines in global football. Klopp will need to employ regular rotation to keep all the players content, but he will undoubtedly be pleased with the array of options available to him.
It appears that Fabio Carvalho is likely to be either loaned out or sold during the summer, as the Portuguese talent found it challenging to secure playing time last season. If Carvalho does depart, it is improbable that Liverpool will seek a replacement, as they currently have ample depth in the attacking positions.
