Report: Manchester United to include Cristiano Ronaldo in £118m bid to sign Arsenal target

Manchester United  will reportedly launch an audacious bid to sign rumoured Arsenal target Victor Osimhen, with Napoli offering cash in addition to star striker Cristiano Ronaldo, who wants to leave for UEFA Champions League football.

According to Il Mattino,, super-agent Jorge Mendes has informed Napoli that an offer worth €140 million (£118 million) is on its way to sign Osimhen, who has long been on Arsenal’s radar, with the Nigerian international regarded by many as one of the best strikers in Serie A.

With Anthony Martial’s injury issues causing selection issues for Erik Ten Hag, a star centre-forward is required at Old Trafford, and while talks for Ajax star Antony continue, it now appears that Osimhen has emerged as a target for United, with the Manchester giants willing to offer Ronaldo to Napoli in order to sign the forward.

Ten Hag’s side are far from the only club interested in Osimhen this summer, with Bayern Munich reportedly interested in the former LOSC Lille star, as well as Arsenal, who have long been admirers of the striker, who Napoli are thought to value at €100 million (£85 million).

Indeed, this report of United offering cash plus Ronaldo to sign Osimhen appears absurd to say the least, but with the Portuguese striker eager to play in the Champions League and United desperate to add a quality centre-forward to their ranks, the rumour isn’t as far-fetched as it first appeared.

While Antony appears to be United’s main target before the window closes, signing Osimhen from Napoli while also offloading Ronaldo could be a huge result for the Red Devils, much to the chagrin of Arsenal, who have been linked with the Nigerian superstar for quite some time.

A deal of this magnitude so late in the window appears almost impossible to pull off, but given United’s desperate need for a striker and Ronaldo’s desire to leave, there may be a way for this transfer to be completed, with Arsenal potentially losing long-term Napoli star Osimhen to a Premier League rival.

For United, offloading Ronaldo and signing Osimhen in exchange would be a massive result, with the Nigerian international ideal to lead the line for the Red Devils and provide Ten Hag with the ideal striker to get the best out of Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford.
