Report: Manchester United ready to ‘listen to any offers’ and ditch £240,000 per week player
Manchester United are considering parting ways with Anthony Martial during the upcoming summer transfer window following his recent display of dissatisfaction during the match against Bournemouth.
After being substituted in the game, Martial appeared unhappy and immediately walked off the pitch towards the tunnel. However, he later rejoined his teammates.
Although Erik ten Hag, the manager, avoided addressing the incident in post-match interviews, The Sun has reported that Manchester United is prepared to let go of Martial.
According to the report, United is open to entertaining any offers they receive for the French striker.
Anthony Martial future looks bleak
It would be beneficial for Anthony Martial to overcome his current state of unhappiness and redirect his attention towards enhancing his performances on the field.
Since his return from injury, Martial has scored only two goals in a total of 11 appearances, and his overall goal tally for the season remains below ten.
Manchester United is in dire need of acquiring a highly productive goal scorer, or perhaps even two, during the upcoming summer transfer window. It becomes challenging to envision Martial’s role within the team given these circumstances.
Having been with Manchester United since 2015, Martial has been fortunate to receive opportunities this season. However, he has not fully capitalized on those chances.
Anthony Martial wages
Manchester United faces a challenge in relation to Anthony Martial’s wages, as reported by The MEN, which amount to £240,000 per week. This high salary could potentially make it more difficult to find a suitable destination for him in the transfer market.
However, given that his contract extends until 2024, with the option of an additional year, Manchester United might be willing to accept a relatively low transfer fee.
The decision to “listen to any offers” suggests that the club’s patience with Martial has reached its limits. While he may currently be the best option for the forward position until the end of the season, it highlights the lack of depth in that area for Manchester United.
Even if Martial were to score a winning goal in the FA Cup final, it might not be sufficient to salvage his position at the club at this point.
