Report: Chelsea now drop out of the race to sign £135m player Liverpool could sign for free
After Chelsea apparently fell out of the race, the possibility of Ousmane Dembele joining Liverpool has risen.
Liverpool was said to have approached Barcelona about signing the France international three weeks ago.
Dembele is on the verge of being released by Barcelona after failing to reach an agreement on a new deal with the rumored Chelsea target.
The Stamford Bridge club is also in talks with the Catalans about signing the jet-heeled winger, a £135 million transfer [BBC Sport] during the summer of 2017.
However, the same publication now claims that Chelsea – and Paris Saint-Germain – have ‘cooled their interest’ in the youngster, which might open the way for Liverpool to sign him.
Jurgen Klopp has been linked with a bid to sign the former Borussia Dortmund forward on several times since taking over as manager of the Reds.
And, with heavyweights like Chelsea and PSG seemingly out of the running, he could be available for Liverpool.
Sport reported yesterday that Dembele’s financial demands startled West Londoners.
This is a player that is one week away from being a free agent, but the personal terms are expected to be enormous.
In any event, Ousmane Dembele joining Liverpool appears more likely now than it did last week.
