Rejected Manchester United player being considered for free agent move to Chelsea
Sergio Romero bequeathed Old Trafford at the end of June and has been back in his native Argentina since.
But rather than follow Marcos Rojo who signed for Boca Juniors earlier this year, Romero is being associated with a return to the UK.
The Telegraph report Chelsea are contemplating a move to sign Romero as a free agent.
Romero is in the mix to back up Eduardo Mendy and Kepa Arrizabalaga, although it is unclear if the latter wants to stay.
Chelsea are weighing younger goalkeepers but Romero is a player they are considering.
Romero signed for Manchester United in 2014 and stayed for seven terms in total.

He was used largely as a back-up, playing a total of 61 games, one more than Peter Schmeichel’s deputy Raimond van der Gouw.
Romero always felt too safe to be a number two, having represented Argentina in the World Cup final, and he was unfortunate to have an excellent David de Gea in front of him.
It would be a blot now if he settled for a backup role, although it is certainly nice work for him, getting paid a lot of money for rarely playing, it would be good if he had one last real run of regular football in his career.
Romero is 34 and was associated by The Athletic to both Everton and Juventus earlier in the transfer window, at both clubs he would have been a back-up too. A return to the Premier League is said to please to him.
United let Romero leave and re-signed Tom Heaton, who is now third choice but could be upgraded to second if one of David de Gea or Dean Henderson departs.
If Romero signed for Chelsea it would be a shame, although no hard feeling on United’s section.
The club really messed up his situation in 2020 after dropping him from three cup semi-finals after he helped them get there, and then did not give him the move he wanted in the summer.
His 2020/21 season was totally wasted as he did not feature in a single matchday squad.
