‘Really strange’: Conte claims something very unusual is happening at Tottenham Hotspur right now
Following Wednesday night’s loss to Nottingham Forest, Tottenham manager Antonio Conte called his team’s injury issues as “very strange.”
Again, the North Londoners were miserable. They had just two shots on target compared to eight for the hosts, which is abysmal considering that several of their regulars began yesterday’s game.
Conte believes injuries have played a significant role in Spurs’ loss of one of their finest chances to win a title.
The Tottenham manager was queried about Harry Kane’s fitness last night after the Englishman was replaced at the hour mark. Conte stated that he knew his top striker was ‘very, really exhausted’ even before the game, but he was compelled to start him nevertheless.
The Italian said that Son Heung- min’s injury and the unavailability of Richarlison and Kulusevsli meant that he had no choice but to play Kane last night.
Then, he stated that the current injury scenario at Tottenham is’really strange’ and that he hopes he won’t have to deal with a similar problem again in the future.
Conte said, as quoted by Football London: “It was a problem of tiredness (for Kane). Really, really tired and yesterday we had a soft training session and at one point he stopped himself to recover energy. But he’s okay.
“It’s only fatigue but it’s normal because Harry played every game. When you have a player like him it’s difficult to decide you don’t play with him.
“In this situation, also if I wanted to start with another player it was impossible because of injuries to Richarlison, Kulu and Lucas Moura, from the start of the season. We’re not having Lucas Moura from the start of the season but no one is talking about this. Then two weeks ago, also Sonny.
“Today honestly it was really difficult if Kane told me ‘coach maybe it’s better I don’t start today because I risk a lot to have an injury’. But I repeat it’s normal, what’s happening in his period is really strange. In the future, I hope we don’t face another situation like this.”
