‘Really good guy’: Haaland gushes over Liverpool man Roy Keane criticized this week

Virgil van Dijk of Liverpool has had a terrible start to the season.

Since joining the Reds for £75 million in January 2018, the Netherlands international has established himself as one of the world’s best central defenders.

However, Liverpool as a whole – and certainly Van Dijk – have had a disastrous first month of the Premier League season.

On Monday, the Dutchman struggled as the Reds were defeated 2-1 at Old Trafford by Manchester United.

Roy Keane called him ‘sloppy’ for his performance, and Micah Ricahrds said it was ‘strange’ to see such an accomplished defender perform so poorly.

Erling Haaland, on the other hand, remains a fan of Van Dijk.

The £51 million Manchester City striker will face the Liverpool powerhouse at least twice this season, pending fitness, and the Norwegian international has expressed his admiration for him.

He told the September issue of Four Four Two: “It’s always nice to face the best and that’s what Van Dijk is. I’ve played against him a few times, and he’s a really good guy as well as an exceptional footballer. I like to play against him because he may be the best in the world. But I have scored at Anfield and for Norway against the Netherlands.”

Football is a volatile business in which you can go from world class to flop in a matter of weeks.

It’s unusual to see players like Van Dijk become memes on social media, but that’s exactly what has happened since Liverpool’s defeat this week.

However, as the saying goes, “form is temporary, class is permanent.”

And with Haaland admitting that he’s ‘exceptional,’ it’s only a matter of time before the former Southampton man reminds everyone of his talent.
