Real Madrid walk away from Kai Havertz deal after learning Chelsea asking price
According to information obtained by 90min, Real Madrid has decided to loosen their efforts in acquiring Kai Havertz due to worries about the high price demanded by Chelsea.
The club has engaged in discussions with Havertz’s representatives, expressing their interest in a potential transfer during the summer.
Real Madrid’s manager, Carlo Ancelotti, sees the 23-year-old as a talented and adaptable attacker who could fill the void left by the departure of Eden Hazard and Marco Asensio.
Chelsea is eager to retain Kai Havertz this summer, but according to 90min, they would consider selling him if the right offer comes along. The club is in need of funds after a year of significant spending that did not result in qualifying for the Champions League.
Reports suggest that Chelsea is looking to recoup the substantial amount they paid to acquire Havertz in 2020, which exceeded £70 million. Sources have confirmed that Real Madrid has withdrawn from negotiations at the moment.
Real Madrid officials do not value Havertz as highly as Chelsea does, considering he still has two years left on his contract. Therefore, they are currently not inclined to pursue a deal at the asking price set by Chelsea.
Despite the breakdown in negotiations between Real Madrid and Chelsea, there remains a genuine possibility of Kai Havertz leaving Chelsea during the summer transfer window. Bayern Munich, led by former Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel, have been long-time admirers of the German player and view him as a potential replacement for the aging Thomas Muller.
In addition to Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain has also been alerted to Havertz’s potential availability, especially as they seek to find a replacement for Lionel Messi.
Although Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino has expressed that Havertz still has a place in his team, the arrival of Christopher Nkunku this summer and plans to sign a new central striker indicate that the Argentine manager is willing to authorize Havertz’s departure.
Real Madrid had previously shown interest in acquiring Kai Havertz’s services in 2020, but he ultimately chose to join Chelsea. However, the German forward still has a significant number of admirers at Real Madrid’s Santiago Bernabeu. In fact, Real Madrid may consider pursuing Havertz again, depending on the outcome of their pursuit of Tottenham striker Harry Kane.
With Kane having just one year remaining on his contract and being identified as a potential successor to Karim Benzema, Real Madrid’s interest in Havertz could potentially be reignited if they are unable to secure a deal for Kane.
