Real Madrid makes shock inquiry to sign injured Chelsea player

According to the Evening Standard, Real Madrid have reached out to Chelsea to inquire about the possibility of signing Armando Broja. Broja has recently returned to Chelsea after a loan spell at Southampton, during which he scored nine goals across various competitions.

Although West Ham United was previously interested in signing him, the then Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel expressed his desire to keep Broja at Chelsea, particularly after Romelu Lukaku’s departure.

“I don’t expect him[Broja] to leave,” Tuchel told the Chelsea official website at the start of his side’s pre-season tour in the United States.

“We are aware of interest and offers, which just tells us there is a lot of potential, and the owners and me will take this decision together in the end, also with the player.

“After his loan at Southampton, the situation was very clear for him to make the next step, to show his improvement and make an impression in pre-season.

“Let’s see how this goes but I’m pretty calm about it because we know the situation and we have a contract.”

Despite having acquired Gianluca Scamacca from Serie A club Sassuolo, West Ham is reportedly still interested in signing Broja.

While Newcastle United and Everton have also been credited with an interest in Broja, Chelsea are currently unwilling to entertain any offers for the 20-year-old.

However, the Blues’ stance could soon be tested by Real Madrid, who are now believed to be admirers of Broja.

Real Madrid, coached by Carlo Ancelotti, are in need of a new substitute striker after Luka Jovic left for Fiorentina, and their current back-up option, Mariano Diaz, is still unimpressive.

They heavily relied on Karim Benzema for scoring goals in the previous season, and now they are looking to strengthen their attack options as they aim to defend their Spanish and European titles in the upcoming season.
