Ramsdale update, Tomiyasu close, Saka return – Latest Arsenal injury update ahead of Crystal Palace clash
Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal make their long-awaited comeback from the international break on Monday, when they face Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.
With top four opponents Manchester United and Tottenham already playing this weekend, the heat is on the Gunners.
However, with two games in hand on both Spurs and Manchester United, the club is in pole position to finish in the Champions League this season.
Following the meeting with Palace, that will be reduced to only one, knowing that three points are critical to the cause.
However, there are few games that are more difficult than a journey to play the Eagles, who have been soaring under new coach Patrick Vieira.
He will, however, be trying to derail his former club, with a 2-2 draw in the opposite encounter demonstrating their ability.
With that said, here’s a look at Arsenal’s newest injury news before of the game.
Takehiro Tomiyasu
Takehiro Tomiyasu has been absent for several weeks owing to injuries to both calves, meaning he has been in and out of the lineup.
The Japanese international was unable to join his country during the March break, but has been more involved in club training sessions since and could rejoin on Monday.
What Arteta has said: “I think he [Takehiro Tomiyasu] will be close. He has been training more and more. He will be joining some sessions this week and let’s see how it is.”
Expected return: Crystal Palace (A) – April 4
Aaron Ramsdale
Aaron Ramsdale missed the win over Villa due to a muscular injury sustained before the game, with backup ‘keeper Bernd Leno filling in.
With his teammate still doubtful for Monday’s match, the German shot-stopper could be called upon again in south London.
Ramsdale has been in good form since transferring to the Emirates, although he was unable to participate in an international camp with England in March owing to an injury.
What Arteta has said: “With Aaron it’s a doubt. He hasn’t trained yet so we don’t know what he’ll be able to do on Monday.”
Expected return: N/A
Bukayo Saka
Bukayo Saka was the Premier League hero last time out, netting the only goal in a 1-0 triumph over Aston Villa at Villa Park.
The attacker, though, withdrew from the most recent England international squad after testing positive for Covid-19, and he missed the friendly victories against Switzerland and Ivory Coast over the break.
He has since returned to training after a period of seclusion and is in contention to start against Palace, with the break potentially preparing him well for the season’s closing stretch.
What Arteta has said: “Bukayo [Saka] is feeling good. He’s training today, hopefully.”
Expected return: Crystal Palace (A) – April 4
