Ralf Rangnick discloses his six transfer recommendations to Man Utd board
Ralf Rangnick says that Manchester United rejected all six of his transfer suggestions, which included Luis Diaz, Alvaro Morata, and Christopher Nkunku.
Rangnick was appointed United’s interim manager in November 2018 following Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s dismissal, but the 64-year-old was unable to improve the team’s performances and a sixth-place Premier League finish led to his dismissal in May.
Rangnick was in control of United throughout the January transfer window, but Erik ten Hag was backed with nearly £220 million worth of new arrivals in the summer, including Antony, Lisandro Martinez, and Casemiro.
During his last few weeks as United’s manager, Rangnick made it abundantly plain that the team need considerable improvement, going so far as to declare it required “open heart surgery.”
However, the German has now disclosed that United’s administration rejected his advise when he suggested a number of potential transfer targets.
“It was clear to everyone that there was a need in many areas,” Rangnick said in an interview with Bild.
“That’s why we were already discussing players like Josko Gvardiol and Christopher Nkunku from RB Leipzig. Those were names that were realistic.
“We also talked about Alvaro Morata, Luis Diaz, Dusan Vlahovic and, as I said, Haaland when they were still on the market.
“But the club decided at that time to rebuild the team under the new coach.’
