‘Put off’: Tottenham told one reason why Thomas Tuchel might not succeed Antonio Conte
Craig Burley believes that potential candidates, including former Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel, may be discouraged from taking on the role of Tottenham Hotspur manager if Harry Kane leaves the club during the upcoming summer transfer window.
There are rumors that Tuchel could be a potential candidate to replace Antonio Conte, who is facing dismissal following his criticism of Tottenham.
Tuchel was previously fired from Chelsea in September, and Graham Potter was appointed as his replacement.
As of now, Chelsea is ranked tenth in the Premier League standings, while Spurs are in fourth place, eleven points ahead of them.
Most people would agree that Antonio Conte’s tenure at Tottenham is coming to an end, regardless of whether he is dismissed now or in the summer.
However, the next manager to take the reins at the club will undoubtedly have many questions to ask, with the most pressing one being about the future of Harry Kane. Thierry Henry, for instance, believes that the English captain should depart the club.
According to Craig Burley, a former Chelsea midfielder, if Harry Kane leaves Tottenham, Thomas Tuchel may not be interested in taking the manager’s job at the club, as Burley stated in an interview with ESPN.
“If Man United want to go to the next level, then they need to get Kane,” said Burley. “He is just such a good footballer, all-round, not just his goals.
“He’s guaranteed goals, isn’t he?! The difficulty is that if you are trying to tempt a Thomas Tuchel, or somebody to the club, if any of these managers get a sniff that Harry Kane is going, then that’s going to put them off as well.”
Regardless of which path Daniel Levy chooses, one thing is clear: Tottenham Hotspur now requires a long-term coach who can take the club forward.
Although Thomas Tuchel would be a suitable long-term candidate, given the possibility of Harry Kane departing and the criticism from Antonio Conte, it’s unclear why he would want to take the job at Tottenham.
