Manchester United have denied reports that they had a massive bid turned down for Atletico Madrid star Joao Felix, amid a subtle dig from the Spanish club.

According to reports in Spain, the Red Devils are attempting to sign the former Benfica forward as part of a last-minute scramble for signings in the final few weeks of the transfer window.

It was reported that United had a €130 million (£110 million) offer rejected by Atleti, who are keen to keep Felix and would only sell for his eye-watering €350 million (£296 million) release clause.

That appears unlikely, given the Red Devils’ desperate need for more signings following their disastrous start to the new season under Erik ten Hag.

Atletico Madrid has gone even further, issuing a hands-off warning via their own Twitter account.

They posted a photo of Felix in training with the caption “priceless” in what was sure to be a dig at Old Trafford.

United, on the other hand, has responded in kind. According to the Mail Online, the club has dismissed claims that their initial offer for Felix was rejected as “pure nonsense.”

It will be interesting to see if that interest continues in the final weeks of the season as the Red Devils look to add to the signings of Tyrell Malacia, Christian Eriksen, and Lisandro Martinez.

Felix appears to be on the unlikely side, with the 22-year-old Portuguese still having four years left on his Wanda Metropolitano contract.

Meanwhile, he has expressed his satisfaction with life with the Spanish giants. “I’m happy, I’m working to help the team, give joy to the club and all the people of Atleti. The other years I always tried to be better,” he said to AS.

“If this is my year, I don’t know. It depends, we don’t know about the future. But what I can assure you is that I am doing my best to be at the best level so that I can help the team and the club.

“I arrived here young, I’m still young but I’ve already grown a lot and I’m sure to grow more. And I’m fine. I’m happy. I have a calm head and when so, things go naturally and let’s hope things are good.”

While Manchester United appear unlikely to complete a deal for Felix, it appears that one man is on his way from Madrid. According to various reports, the Red Devils are close to completing a deal for Real Madrid star Casemiro.

The club will pay just under £60 million for the Brazilian’s services, and he will sign a four-year contract at Old Trafford.
