The fact that Manchester City is not yet running away with the Premier League, according to Jurgen Klopp, makes the title fight more intriguing.

The Blues are favorites to win their third consecutive title this season.

The champions’ inability to win three games has left the door open for title contenders in the early stages of the season, despite widespread anticipation that they will eventually establish a sizable advantage over them.

They dropped points against Newcastle and Aston Villa before losing to Liverpool for the first time this season two weeks ago.

City responded with a victory against Brighton, but were held to a goalless draw by Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League this week. As a result, they had won only one of their previous four games, following a goalless draw with FC Copenhagen prior to their loss to Liverpool.

Klopp’s side suffered another shocking loss on Saturday, this time to Leeds, after rebounding from last week’s 1-0 loss to Nottingham Forest with a 3-0 Champions League victory against Ajax.

Following losses to Arsenal and Manchester United this season, they are currently 13 points behind City in the standings.

Klopp conceded that his team is not now in contention for the crown, but he noted that City’s recent troubles have created an intriguing title race.

“City is not running away [which] obviously makes it more competitive,” he said in Friday’s press conference.

“There’s not just one team or two teams up front, there are three, four, five teams up front. My problem with that is that we are not one of them. Apart from that I don’t look at other clubs, apart from when we play them.”
