Premier League’s two biggest flops named as Haaland beats Man Utd and Arsenal pair
Premier League’s most disappointing performers this season have been revealed.
Additionally, Erling Haaland has recieved heap of praise for his exceptional debut season at Manchester City, where his contributions played a crucial part in securing their third consecutive English title.Â
Despite Arsenal’s commendable efforts, they narrowly missed out on winning the end-of-season honors.
In Express Sport recent football poll, Erling Haaland was chosen by an overwhelming 72 percent of participants as the Premier League’s signing of the season, establishing himself as the standout talent in the league throughout the campaign.
His incredible performance included breaking Alan Shearer’s longstanding record for the highest number of goals scored by a single player, finding the back of the net 36 times. This impressive tally accounted for over 38 percent of Manchester City’s total goals.
Furthermore, Haaland’s remarkable contributions led to him being recognized as the Premier League’s best young player, receiving 62 percent of the vote. He surpassed other talented players such as Bukayo Saka, Martin Odegaard, Marcus Rashford, and Casemiro to also secure a prominent position in the voting for the overall player of the season.
The upcoming Premier League season, starting in August, will reveal whether Erling Haaland can replicate his impressive goal-scoring form.
Former Liverpool player Jamie Carragher has expressed his belief that Haaland has the potential to become the greatest player in the history of the Premier League, even surpassing current records.
However, Carragher also anticipates that Haaland’s time at Manchester City will eventually come to an end, suggesting that he may move on from the Etihad Stadium in the future. Only time will tell how Haaland’s career unfolds and whether he can live up to such high expectations.
“Haaland just looks amazing,” said Carragher on Sky Sports shortly after the player’s move to City last summer. “We know we’ve got a great player in the league, but I think we’ve got something really special that when he’s finished his time at Manchester City or the Premier League, we’ll be talking about him alongside Thierry Henry. This lad could end up being the best player we see in the Premier League.”
In the survey conducted by Express Sport, readers were asked to identify the biggest disappointments of the season. Tottenham forward Richarlison emerged as the top choice with 27 percent of the vote.
The Brazilian striker, who joined Tottenham from Everton last summer in a high-value deal worth approximately £60 million, had a challenging season, managing to score only one goal in the Premier League for his new team.
This underwhelming performance contributed to his designation as the biggest flop of the season according to the respondents.
Mykhaylo Mudryk, who recently joined Chelsea, secured the second position in the poll with 24 percent of the votes, as Express Sport readers considered him one of the major disappointments of the season.
Raheem Sterling, who moved from Manchester City to Chelsea almost a year ago, was chosen by 18 percent of voters as another underwhelming performer at Stamford Bridge.
In addition, Frank Lampard was named as the biggest managerial disappointment of the campaign. He had an unsuccessful interim spell at Chelsea, taking over from Graham Potter as the Blues’ manager.
Lampard also faced difficulties during his earlier tenure at Everton in the first half of the season. As a result, he was dismissed at the end of January and replaced by Sean Dyche.
