Premier League top scorers 2022/23: Martinelli and Saka rise as Haaland goals continue
The current season of the Premier League has begun and the competition for the Golden Boot is already underway. It seems like it’s going to be an exciting race again.
Last year, Mohamed Salah and Son Heung-min both scored 23 goals, and they shared the Golden Boot award.
Salah, the footballer from Liverpool, has won this award three times now, which is the same number of times as Harry Kane, a forward for Tottenham, who is always in the running to win.
Erling Haaland and Harry Kane are leading the race for the Premier League Golden Boot, with Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka from Arsenal also showing good form.
Haaland has been in incredible form, scoring eight goals in two matches for Manchester City in the Champions League and FA Cup. Although he hasn’t scored in six of his last 11 Premier League games, he remains at the top of the goal-scoring charts, having scored in City’s recent league victories over Arsenal, Bournemouth, and Crystal Palace.
Haaland has already become the first player to reach 20 goals in a Premier League season before January, and he has since surpassed last season’s winning total of 23 goals, which was shared by Salah and Son Heung-min.
He has also broken the record for the most goals scored by a Manchester City player in a Premier League season, surpassing Sergio Aguero’s previous record of 26.
Haaland’s consistency throughout the season has given him a significant lead over Kane, who is his closest rival for the Golden Boot. Kane has been unable to reduce the gap, and Haaland currently has 28 league goals from just 26 appearances.
Kane has been performing well this season, scoring 21 goals in 28 Premier League games, and if it wasn’t for Haaland’s spectacular performance, he would be a strong contender for the golden boot.
Toney, Rashford, Salah, Mitrovic, Martinelli, Saka, and Odegaard are some other players who are in contention for the golden boot. Havertz tops the scoring charts for Chelsea while Son, the winner of last year’s Golden Boot along with Salah, has only scored six goals this season.
Cristiano Ronaldo, who was expected to perform well, scored only one goal this season.
