UEFA has announced the dates for the two-legged Champions League quarterfinal between Chelsea and Borussia Dortmund.
The first leg will take place on Wednesday, 15 February 2023, with the return match scheduled for Wednesday, 7 March 2023 at Stamford Bridge.
Between now and then, a great deal can occur, including the possible return of some of Graham Potter’s star players, whose injury list continues to increase.
N’Golo Kante, Reece James, Wesley Fofana, Kepa Arrizabalaga, and Ben Chilwell may all participate in the March second leg.
It is impossible to predict the impact the upcoming World Cup will have on the participating players.
Now that these dates have been established, it is intriguing to examine the Premier League schedule surrounding both matches to determine if Potter’s situation will get more difficult.
Chelsea remains in the capital for the games preceding and following the opening leg. A match against West Ham at the London Stadium on the 11th of February, followed by a match against Southampton at home on the 18th. The next month, Chelsea will face Leeds on March 4 and Leicester at the King Power Stadium on March 11.
Last season, Thomas Tuchel led Chelsea to victories over Leeds, Southampton, and Leicester in comparable matches, with the exception of a 3-2 loss to West Ham in a local derby in December 2021.
