Premier League 5 best set-piece takers this season
Set-pieces are an essential part of football. Open play scoring necessitates teams playing expansive football. Each pass in a move must be measured and timed precisely. Teams require creative players who can help break down the opposition’s defense and find a way to score.
Among the legends who excelled at taking set-pieces were David Beckham, Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard, Robin van Persie, Thierry Henry, Matt Le Tissier, and Gianfranco Zola.
Without further ado, here are five of the Premier League’s best set-piece takers this season.
5 Martin Odegaard (Arsenal)
Martin Odegaard is an extremely talented footballer. Arsenal desperately needed a creative midfielder and signed the Norwegian international from Real Madrid for €35 million this summer.

This season, the 23-year-old has played a key role in Arsenal’s resurgence, scoring four goals and providing three assists in 18 Premier League appearances. Odegaard’s set-piece delivery is one of his strongest assets.
In a 1-0 win over Burnley earlier this season, he scored a brilliant free-kick. This season in the Premier League, he has delivered nine accurate indirect set-piece deliveries that resulted in a shot. One of them resulted in a successful goal.

4 Marcos Alonso (Chelsea)
It’s safe to say that Marcos Alonso’s Chelsea career has been resurrected under Thomas Tuchel. The use of wing-backs by the German coach has given the Spaniard new life, and he has been a key player for the Blues over the last year.

Alonso’s ability to execute set-pieces is one of his main assets. He is a key free-kick taker for Chelsea. Against Crystal Palace, the 31-year-old scored from a direct free-kick. He’s also capable of bringing in some beauties from dead-ball situations.
Seven of his dead-ball deliveries resulted in a shot, and one resulted in a goal. From deadball situations, he generates a lot of power and swing on the ball, and it’s a treat when one of those ends up in the back of the net.
