Prem manager reveals it is ‘very nice’ to be linked with the Arsenal job
Mikel Arteta’s role at the Emirates has been called into question several times in recent seasons.
The Spaniard has been chastised for his lack of experience and tact in big games.
After the first three Premier League games of the season, his position appeared particularly precarious.
Arsenal had lost to Brentford on the first day of the season before losing to Chelsea and being thrashed by Manchester City.
The former midfielder appeared to be on the verge of losing his job just weeks into the 2021-22 season. However, victories over Norwich, Burnley, and Tottenham have helped his team climb the table.
As Arsenal prepares to return to European competition, Arteta will be hoping for a successful few months. Last season, they finished eighth, just one point behind north London rivals Tottenham Hotspur.
Regardless of how well Arteta performs, Brentford manager Thomas Frank remains a candidate for the job. For the first time in 74 years, the Dane led his team into the top flight.
They play an attacking style of football, which could help them stay in the league. So far, the Bees have amassed a respectable 12 points from seven games.
During an interview with Danish outlet Bold, Frank was asked about the Arsenal links. He said:
“I think I read that at some point. It’s very nice, but one thing is rumours, and the other is if they really wanted to contact me. Then we have to take it from there.”
On his love for his current team, Frank added: “I have a contact until 2023. I’m insanely happy at Brentford. A club that means a lot to me and where I have had great times. I enjoy working with our director of football, owners, players, staff and fans.
“It’s the club who must come to me, but now we must see what the future brings. I know we have a mutual respect and a good relationship with each other on that.”
Brentford’s first game following the international break will be against Chelsea. Meanwhile, Arsenal will face Crystal Palace, who are managed by Patrick Vieira.
