Plays in 5 positions: Arsenal eyeing two-footed ‘phenomenon’, Edu may sell Nketiah for him
Reports suggest that Arsenal are contemplating making a move to acquire the services of Jonathan David, the striker from Lille, before the start of the 2023/24 season in the Premier League.
Due to Gabriel Jesus’s absence, Mikel Arteta has relied mostly on Eddie Nketiah as a striker, until the arrival of Leandro Trossard. However, the Arsenal manager is still in need of another experienced attacking player during the upcoming summer transfer window.
According to TEAMtalk, Arsenal has been interested in the 23-year-old player for a long time, and their sporting director Edu has been closely monitoring him for the past three years.
In an interview conducted in December, the Canadian striker acknowledged that he could envision himself moving to the top tier of professional football in the near future.
“In England, when I watch the matches, everything is full each time. As a player, it motivates you even more.
“I don’t know, I think it’s possible, very possible. I don’t know if I can find myself anywhere other than the Premier League. It could well be the Premier League. It’s a very nice atmosphere.”
Arsenal considering summer approach for Jonathan David
Spanish reports (via CaughtOffside) suggest that Arsenal is actively considering and strategizing to make a move for David during the upcoming summer transfer window.
The Canadian footballer is believed to offer a unique skill set to Arsenal’s attack and the club is reportedly committed to securing his services.
To finance the deal and make room for a new arrival in the forward line, Arsenal’s sporting director Edu may be prepared to part ways with young talents Nketiah and Balogun.
Lille is reportedly looking to receive a transfer fee of around €50m (£44m) to allow David to leave the club, but should Arsenal successfully sign him for this amount during the summer transfer window, it would be considered an excellent deal.
David, who is sponsored by Adidas, has been in sensational form this season, scoring 19 goals and providing four assists in 26 appearances in Ligue 1, with an average of 3.2 shots per game.
The Canadian footballer’s versatility would be a valuable addition to the Arsenal squad, as he has played in five different positions during his career, including on both left and right flanks, in addition to his natural striker position.
Journalist Josh Bunting has praised David as a “shining light” at Lille, while Belgian manager Hein Vanhaezebrouck has described him as a “phenomenon”.
It’s clear that David would be a significant addition to Arsenal’s squad, and his arrival at the Emirates would have a highly positive impact on the team.
