Player prepared to pay the compensation fee out of his own pocket to force Man United move
Wout Weghorst is prepared to force his January transfer to Manchester United by making a sensational offer to Besiktas, his current loan club.
If Weghorst and Erik ten Hag have their way, he could leave the Turkish giants as early as tomorrow.
United have identified the Dutch striker as their top short-term striker option during the January transfer window. After Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure in November, Ten Hag desires a speedy way to bolster his attacking ranks.
The Red Devils’ interest in Weghorst, who is currently on loan at Besiktas from Burnley, has proven problematic, however. The 30-year-old will take his own precautions to ensure his transfer to Old Trafford goes through.
According to Turkish journalist Gokhan Dinc, if Besiktas does not allow Weghorst to leave in the coming days, he will pay the compensation fee out of pocket.
He adds that the Super League club is expected to announce his departure tomorrow, though it is unknown if he has paid his way out or if an agreement has been reached between Burnley and United.
According to Express Sport, Besiktas stipulated two conditions for terminating Weghorst’s loan so he could join United this month.
Besiktas sporting director Ceyhun Kazani is in negotiations with the player’s agent, Simon Cziommer, regarding the compensation fee that they require to terminate his contract early.
Before allowing him to leave, they also desired to secure a replacement in order to avoid a lack of striker options.
Other Turkish reports claim that Besiktas are awaiting Vincent Aboubakar’s departure from Al-Nasser in order to sign him as Weghorst’s replacement.
United are still competing on all fronts in Ten Hag’s first season as manager, so he is optimistic about securing his target before the winter transfer deadline.
The Red Devils are now favored to finish in the top four of the Premier League after a string of impressive performances.
In addition, they have a Europa League knockout play-off against Barcelona, a potential two-legged Carabao Cup semi-final, and the FA Cup fourth round.
Weghorst will offer something unique to Anthony Martial and is likely eager to disprove his doubters following a difficult England debut at Burnley last season.
