Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang appears to jet off after being axed from Chelsea’s European squad
Graham Potter’s decision to remove Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Chelsea Champions League squad appears to have resulted in the player’s departure from the country.
Aubameyang was cut from Chelsea’s European squad on Friday, making way for new January signings Mykhailo Mudryk and Enzo Fernandez in the limited roster.
Now, the out-of-favor Blues forward appears to have flown to Milan while his team was held scoreless by Fulham on Friday night.
The Gabon international star appeared in his brother Willy’s Instagram story depicting the duo on vacation in Milan with other family members.
Aubameyang is pictured at the front of the group photo wearing a blue and white Louis Vuitton sweater. He appears to be holding the camera.
However, the move appears to have occurred at an odd time, as the player was not included in Chelsea’s match against Fulham. It is unknown if Aubameyang was granted permission to leave or if he left without authorization.
Aubameyang is not the only Chelsea player left out of their competition squad; David Datro Fofana, Noni Madueke, Andrey Santos, Gabriel Slonina, and Benoit Badiashile also failed to make the cut.
The photo depicted the family posing in front of the Duomo di Milano, with the caption ‘My Family’ provided by Aubameyang’s brother.
However, Chelsea coach Potter insisted that the player handled the news of his withdrawal well, adding, “He’s a professional, I understand he’ll be disappointed. It was a tough call. Pierre is just unfortunate and he’ll be fighting for his place for the rest of the season.
“Whichever decision we made there was always going to be conversation about it. It was my decision. You have to make these calls. He’s done nothing wrong at all.
“I’ve got a responsibility to articulate these decisions as well as I can to the player. He’s handled it very well, he trained today fantastically.”
