Mikel Arteta put his Arsenal players through their paces on Saturday ahead of the momentous visit of Leeds United this afternoon.

Arsenal need a win to improve their prospects of qualifying for the Champions League, with Tottenham falling one point behind the fourth-placed Gunners after a 1-1 draw away to Liverpool yesterday night.

Ben White, a midfielder for the North Londoners, is out with an injury.

Their £50 million centre-back was injured in the win over West Ham United last weekend, and Arteta couldn’t guarantee he’d be available for selection against the Whites today.

And, oddly, the Spaniard promoted an Under-23 defender against London Colney on Saturday.

Jonathan Dinzeyi, who joined Arsenal from Tottenham Hotspur in 2020, was spotted in Arteta’s practise – and he appears to be a muscular specimen.

In one photo, the 22-year-old centre-back, who stands 6’4, can be seen with Gabriel Magalhaes and Rob Holding showcasing his towering presence.

Dinzeyi has never played for Arsenal at the senior level, so it will be fascinating to see if his presence in training yesterday is linked to a possible promotion to the squad against Jesse Marsch’s players.

White, who came from Brighton last summer, was not pictured at Colney on Saturday, casting serious doubt on his participation.

As a result, it’s not out of the question that Dinzeyi might make the squad, especially given that Arteta is known to base such judgments on training-ground form.

There’s a chance if the Arsenal boss liked what he saw from the big man.
