Phil Foden names Chelsea midfielder as the toughest opponent he’s ever faced

Manchester City’s impressive youngster Phil Foden revealed that the Chelsea midfielder, N’Golo Kante, is the toughest opponent he’s ever faced.

While speaking to Sky Sports, the Manchester City marvel got questioned who was the most challenging defender he’s faced.

Instead of naming a traditional center-half or full-back, Foden selected Chelsea’s French whimsy as his most fierce opponent.

“He’s probably the most obvious one, but it’s Kante,” said the City star.

“He’s just everywhere. You think you’ve got away from him but he’s always just by your side.

“He does everything. He runs everywhere. He’s such a great player. I’d probably say he’s my toughest opponent I’ve played against.”

Foden has enjoyed exemplary display this season, proving to be a thorn to many opposing defenders, and this positively comes as high praise from the newly crowned Premier League champion.

In honesty, Kante would apparently top most lists for the most difficult adversary.

This comes at a time when fellow Frenchman Paul Pogba assarted a similar claim.

When asked to pick his most problematical opponent during a Q&A session on Manchester United’s official website, Pogba said:

“My toughest opponent on the pitch? To be honest, it’s tough against N’Golo Kante.”

Kante’s constant energy and expertise to read the game make him a bummer rival, but an excellent teammate.

The 30-year-old has faced a few niggling injuries in the past year. However, when he’s been available, he’s been splendid.

In both Champions League semi-final legs against Real Madrid, he was named man of the match.

Thomas Tuchel will need him fit for the Blues final two fixtures, away to Aston Villa in the league, then versus Manchester City in the Champions League main event.

Feasibly, Foden can come face to face with his most vexatious opponent once again.
