Pep Guardiola special plan for Jack Grealish progressing towards Man City transfer.
Pep Guardiola has already prepared for Jack Grealish’s summer arrival at Manchester City, although Aston Villa still desires to keep the playmaker.
Grealish is one of Guardiola’s top-two targets in this transfer window, along with Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane, and City are convinced of a deal.
Villa, by distinction, are confident he will commit to a new £200,000-a-week at his boyhood club, with his future set to be decided in the coming weeks.
Guardiola is planning for his possible arrival – in a deal likely to be worth £100million – and is planning on using him in the No. 8 role.
While Grealish has done most of his work from the left in a Villa shirt, he likes himself more in the middle and Guardiola is set to use him in a more central position.
According to The Athletic, he is expecting to rotate him regularly with Ilkay Gundogan.
While he is not set to be an exact like-for-like replacement for Bernardo Silva – who is pushing for a move – he is viewed by Guardiola as more of a midfield option than a forward player.
That may change but it would probably provide Grealish more freedom, with Guardiola placing less focus on defensive work in the middle as opposed to wide players.
Grealish, should he arrive at the Etihad, would leave City with an abundance of creativity with the likes of Riyad Mahrez, Kevin De Bruyne, Raheem Sterling and Phil Foden all at Guardiola’s disposal.
While City are focused on signing Grealish and Kane, Villa are advancing to build their team around the former.
Arsenal target Emi Buendia has already arrived from Norwich this summer, along with former Manchester United utility man Ashley Young from Inter Milan.
Leon Bailey, the Jamaica international, is heavily associated with a move from Bayer Leverkusen to further strengthen the supply line to Ollie Watkins.
