Pep Guardiola speaks out on bringing £94m Tottenham target to Manchester City

Pep Guardiola speaks out on bringing £94m Tottenham target to Manchester City

RB Leipzig defender Josko Gvardiol allegedly spoke with Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola about joining the Premier League leaders, with Tottenham also keen in the teenager.

According to Foot Mercato, the Catalan coach has conducted talks with Gvardiol about potentially joining City in January, with the source claiming that the Manchester giants are willing to pay up to €110m (£94m) for the Croatian international in the coming weeks.

Tottenham has also been connected to the 20-year-old centre-back, who has excelled at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, according to the report.

Gvardiol played all six of Croatia’s matches in Qatar as the 2018 finalist  were defeated at the semi-final stage by Argentina this week. The defender is expected to be the tournament’s marquee move.

The fact that Gvardiol is also left-footed makes him one of the most unique players in international football, as it is uncommon to find a centre-back who isn’t natively right-footed, which could explain why City is so eager to get the youngster.

Indeed, Guardiola’s participation in the signing of Gvardiol is a strong hint that the defender could be headed to Manchester in January, especially given City’s search for a long-term partner for Ruben Dias at center-back.

Gvardiol is swiftly establishing himself as one of the hottest properties in sport, and for City, winning the race to sign the defender before the second half of the season will be nothing short of monumental.

The addition of perhaps the best young central defender in the world, Gvardiol, to City’s roster would be another masterstroke from Guardiola and colleagues, much to Tottenham’s dismay.
