Pep Guardiola makes Arsenal admission after Man City defeat to Tottenham
Pep Guardiola acknowledged that Manchester City missed an opportunity by failing to close the gap with Arsenal.
The loss by Mikel Arteta’s team at Everton on Saturday lunchtime allowed the defending champions to draw within two points prior to their first meeting of the season in a few weeks.
However, following a 1-0 loss to Spurs in North London, the Blues remain five points behind the leaders despite having played one more game.
United is now only three points behind City in third place; therefore, City cannot afford to drop many more points if they wish to remain in the title race until the end of the season.
Guardiola recognized the significance of Arsenal’s loss but stated that his team was unable to capitalize.
“Arsenal dropped few points so far so there was an opportunity and Tottenham are fifth, far away from securing Champions League qualification. The team started really well in many things in the build-up, creating one or two set pieces but after a mistake we have done two weeks ago today we repeated it.
“You always have to minimise and sometimes it is not possible. Unfortunately, it happened. Two weeks ago we were able to come back from a more difficult score but with the stadium it was completely different and there were more interruptions in the second half.”
