Pep Guardiola explains why Vincent Kompany would be the best candidate to replace him once he leaves Man City
Pep Guardiola thinks that Vincent Kompany will eventually become the manager of Manchester City, as he sees it as his ultimate calling. However, Guardiola himself has no plans to leave the club anytime soon.
When Guardiola eventually leaves his role as manager of Manchester City, he believes that Vincent Kompany would be the best candidate to replace him.
Guardiola has a lot of respect for Kompany, his former captain, and is confident that Kompany will return to the club as a manager in the future. Guardiola thinks that Kompany’s destiny to manage Manchester City is inevitable and that it’s already predestined for him.
Manchester City will face Kompany’s team, Burnley, in the FA Cup quarter-finals. “He will be back sooner or later,” Pep said.
“I think his destiny to be the manager of Manchester City is already written in the stars.
“It’s going to happen, I don’t know when but it is going to happen. It is my feeling, maybe I am wrong but he has the attributes: work ethic, knowledge of the game, well respected and experienced.
“Doing what he has done is so difficult and he is doing really well. He knows the club, the environment, the fans, what our people need. The destiny is there.”
Vincent Kompany’s team, Burnley, is dominating the Championship and seems to be on track to be promoted to the Premier League without much competition.
In addition to his success with Burnley, Guardiola also acknowledges Kompany’s work as a manager at Anderlecht, and he believes that anyone who observes his achievements cannot help but be impressed.
The Catalan said: “What I like of him, he proves himself. Anderlecht one of the historic teams in Belgium, young players. He took a risk. He went to Burnley after they were relegated where there was pressure.
“In terms of results and the way they play. He proves himself, not just directly to go to a top, top team.” Burnley sit 12 points clear of Sheffield United after playing 34 games of the Championship campaign.
Burnley has only suffered two defeats in the Championship so far this season, but they did lose to Manchester United in the Carabao Cup before Christmas.
It remains to be seen whether Vincent Kompany’s team can cause a surprising upset when they face his former club, Manchester City, on Saturday, March 18.
