Joao Cancelo will be eager to start after serving as an unused substitute in Thursday’s 4-2 victory over Tottenham Hotspur, but he may find himself on the bench once more after Rico Lewis excelled in his absence.
This season, the 28-year-old has made 26 appearances in all competitions, scoring two goals and dishing out five assists. However, Pep has criticized him for a poor attitude in training, and he hasn’t been a regular starter as of late.
Since the conclusion of the World Cup in late December, Cancelo has only started two of City’s five Premier League games, totaling a meager 157 minutes out of a possible 450.
He played 22 minutes in their 3-1 victory over Leeds United (December 28), was an unused sub in their 1-1 draw with Everton (December 31), 45 minutes in their 1-0 victory over Chelsea (January 5), 90 minutes in their 2-1 loss to Manchester United (January 14), and was an unused sub against Spurs (January 19).
If the Portuguese international is benched against Wolves, it will be the fourth time in just three weeks that he has not started.
