Pep Guardiola and Kyle Walker send advice to Aguero following a heart scare

Pep Guardiola has urged Sergio Aguero not to rush back or jeopardize his health after Manchester City’s all-time leading scorer was diagnosed with a heart condition.

Aguero, who joined Barcelona on a free transfer in the summer, has been told he won’t be able to play for at least three months after becoming dizzy and experiencing chest pain during last weekend’s draw with Alaves.

The 33-year-old was evaluated in a hospital and is currently undergoing “a diagnostic and therapeutic process.”

Aguero’s health scare comes just a few months after former Tottenham Hotspur player Christian Eriksen collapsed while playing for Denmark at the European Championship.

“Of course, it is difficult news for everyone,” Guardiola said ahead of City’s Champions League game against Club Brugge. “But especially for him and his family. We wish him well. We wish him a speedy recovery, but it does not matter about the time. We wish him a safe recovery. Health and life is much more important than anything else.

“I’m pretty sure he is in very good hands, good doctors will take care of him, and he will take care of himself.

“He can come back if he can – otherwise, enjoy his life and enjoy what he has done. It depends, I am not a doctor, I don’t know precisely what he has, but be careful and be safe for the rest of his life.”

Kyle Walker, a former team-mate of Eriksen’s at Spurs, said: “It is a surprise, we are fit athletes and train every day. I played in the game when [Bolton’s] Fabrice Muamba went down [after suffering cardiac arrest].

“All I say to Sergio is take your time, as long as it takes. His health is more important than football at the moment.”

Guardiola has downplayed concerns following Manchester City defeats in the Carabao Cup to West Ham and the Premier League to Crystal Palace.

“We are playing at an incredible level,” he said. “The way we are playing in the last month, month and a half, I would say [this is] one of the best moments, maybe the best moments since we’ve been here.”
