Pep Guardiola agrees with Thomas Tuchel on reason for Chelsea’s defeat to Man City

Man City manager Pep Guardiola lauded Chelsea after their 1-0 victory over Thomas Tuchel’s side at Stamford Bridge on Saturday lunchtime.

The only goal of the game came from Gabriel Jesus’ deflected strike, as the hosts suffered their first defeat of the Premier League season after a fast start to the 2021/22 campaign.

Reece James also limped out of the game in the first half, adding salt to Chelsea’s wounds, and some reports claim he could be out for up to six weeks after colliding with Jack Grealish.

However, after a disappointing 0-0 draw with Southampton, it was an important win for Guardiola’s side, and the Spaniard was pleased with the caliber of opposition they defeated.

“Come here and play our game. Sometimes you cannot do it if the opponent is better. We were encouraged to play high and they could not make the build-up like they are masters,” Guardiola told BT Sport after the game.

“They are so good, and that’s why I’m pleased for the way we played. Yeah, the king of the Champions League and the way we played.

“The team can always think and play good or bad but it doesn’t matter where we play we will try to do it and the lads were fantastic, in this stadium, against these opponents and did what we have done have made me so proud.”

During the post-match press conference, Tuchel was eager to praise his opponents, agreeing with Guardiola that City’s brilliance was a factor in the Blues’ underwhelming performance.
