‘People think’: Mauricio Pochettino busts ‘myths’ about Argentina megastar Lionel Messi
Ex-Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino stated that the notion that Argentina captain and World Cup hero Lionel Messi is a quiet player is a myth and praised him as a leader.
While speaking to Fox Sports, Diego Maradona once infamously declared that Lionel Messi is “not a leader,” particularly for his national team.
Due to the idea that the legendary Barcelona player is an introvert, this view has been shared by a number of fans and analysts.
Some of the game’s finest leaders, such as Sergio Ramos and Roy Keane, have a reputation for being loud and yelling orders at their teammates.
Considering that Messi appears to lead by example wherever he plays, millions do not consider him to be a typical leader.
However, Mauricio Pochettino has disproven this notion.
Former Tottenham manager who handled Argentine superstar Lionel Messi at Paris Saint-Germain asserts that the notion that he is too quiet is a myth, while applauding his leadership qualities.
“Messi is now the leader that Argentina needs and for me, that is a massive step for him”, he wrote in a guest column for The Athletic.
Pochettino continued, “It’s not just the performances, which are what we expect. People think he is quiet but sometimes, what you perceive from the outside is wrong. He has a very strong character.”
“He doesn’t talk too much, but he talks when he needs to. Maybe we see him talking more now because of the technology.”
“We are seeing the real Messi. He was always like this. People like to talk in myths and we all know there are a lot of those in football.”
