Paul Scholes points out two teams he wants Manchester United to face in Europa League
On Friday afternoon, the draw for the Europa League will take place after midday.
Paul Scholes, a former midfielder for Manchester United, has expressed his desire for his former team to face Juventus and Roma in the quarter-finals.
Manchester United has already secured a spot in the next round by convincingly defeating Real Betis with a 5-1 aggregate score over two legs.
Additionally, Juventus has also advanced to the quarter-finals after defeating Freiburg 3-0 on aggregate, while Roma eliminated Real Sociedad.
Scholes is eager to avoid drawing a lower-ranked team in the Europa League due to the competition’s lower status, and instead hopes to secure a match that will create a lively atmosphere at Old Trafford.
He wants a match that will generate significant interest and excitement among fans, potentially against a high-profile opponent.
“I always want the big games, I love those big games at Old Trafford,” Scholes told BT Sports, as per The Metro.
“I know it’s not quite Champions League when you are in Europa League but the history of Juventus there, what a game that could be.
“I know both teams probably aren’t at the level they used to be but they seem like they are on their way back. So Juventus for me, possibly Roma.”
Manchester United have already eliminated Barcelona in the play-off rounds en route to the last-16 of the Europa League.
As a result, the team is confident in their abilities and believes that none of the remaining teams in the tournament will want to face them.
In contrast, Manchester United is open to facing any of the remaining opponents and does not seem to have a strong preference for any particular team.
