Paul Pogba has a ‘gentleman’s agreement’ with Manchester United
Juventus has offered Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba a three-year contract, according to the Manchester Evening News, but the Frenchman’s pay demands have not been met.
In addition, Juventus CEO Maurizio Arrivabene has spoken of a “gentleman’s understanding” with Manchester United in relation to a deal for Paul Pogba.
Pogba’s agent, Rafaela Pimenta, is alleged to have opened new talks with the Italian club about a return.
The contract of Paul Pogba at Manchester United expires at the conclusion of the season, and Juventus has long been suggested as a possible destination.
The 29-year-old French midfielder has had a stellar four-year career in Turin, winning four Serie A titles, two Coppa Italias, and reaching the Champions League final.
When asked about the Pogba deal, Juventus CEO Arrivabene said:
“Let’s just make one thing clear. Pogba is a Manchester United player. We must show respect for him and his squad. Having said that, Pogba’s agents are also the same ones who represent Kean and Luca Pellegrini, so it’s only normal we should meet with them.
“The subject of the meeting was not Pogba. If we wanted to talk to Pogba, we would need to speak to Manchester United. It’s a gentleman’s agreement between the clubs.”
Pogba has been offered a three-year contract worth €7.5 million (£6.3 million) per year net by the Old Lady. The central midfielder, on the other hand, wants €11 million (£9.3 million), a huge difference between the two parties.
Pogba’s future leaves fans perplexed as his contract at Old Trafford expires. Manchester City, United’s cross-town rivals, were connected with a move for Pogba, but recent reports suggested he was not interested in moving to the Etihad.
Pogba has been linked with PSG after a poor and injury-plagued season in Manchester. However, it appears that Juventus will win the race to recruit the midfielder.
