Paul Pogba breaks his silence after being jeered by Manchester United supporters at Old Trafford

For the first time since being booed by Manchester United fans during the club’s 3-2 win against Norwich, Paul Pogba has spoken out.

When he was substituted on 74 minutes, some spectators booed him, and he was booed again as he walked towards the tunnel at full-time.

During this incident, the midfielder was seen cupping his ears towards the United crowd, on a day when tempers rose among the fanbase, with anti-Glazer rallies taking place before kickoff.

Pogba’s relationship with the Old Trafford supporters has not always been pleasant since his return in 2016. The World Cup winner’s contract expires at the end of the season, and he appears likely to quit the club.

Many United fans believe he hasn’t lived up to his £89 million price tag, despite winning the League Cup and the Europa League since joining from Juventus. He is now on the verge of leaving for free, with Paris Saint-Germain being linked with a move.

The boos heard on Saturday may have been filled with annoyance as a result of this.

Pogba wrote a message to fans on Instagram a few hours after the final whistle in Manchester, though he did not explicitly address the jeering.

He wrote: “Very important win for all of us today!” However, interim manager Ralf Rangnick did comment on the booing post-match, rebuking the reaction.

He said: “Support in the stadium today was great. I can fully understand why fans are frustrated and disappointed — so are we.

“Things have stayed, as far as I know, peaceful. I don’t think it makes sense to take or target any individual or players.

“If so, it is a collective responsibility. Even if you want to look into the past, it really doesn’t make any sense.”
