Paul Merson makes Arsenal and Tottenham Premier League prediction
Prior to the start of the 2018 Premier League season, Paul Merson predicted that neither Arsenal nor Tottenham will finish in the top four.
The Gunners star favored his former club to qualify for the Champions League because he believed Spurs lacked the personnel to compete in the league and in Europe.
Merson now believes, after six Premier League games, that both North London clubs will finish in the top four.
Both clubs have had outstanding beginnings to the season, with Arsenal at the top of the table and Spurs just two spots behind and one of only two unbeaten teams in the league.
Merson was optimistic about Chelsea’s chances at the beginning of the season, but he now feels Antonio Conte’s team will finish in the top four at their expense due to their poor start to the season and Thomas Tuchel’s dismissal.
“It’s still early doors, but I think the Premier League top-four this season will be Manchester City, Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal in whatever order,” Merson said in his SportsKeeda column.
“Chelsea will obviously have a thing or two to say, but we’ll have to wait and see how [Graham] Potter performs at Stamford Bridge.
“As for Manchester United, I don’t think they’ll make it because they still have a lot of work to do in terms of their squad. They’ve won four league games in a row, including victories against Liverpool and Arsenal, but I’m yet to be convinced by them.
“Arsenal are good and I believe they are in there for the long run, while I’m still backing Liverpool to turn it around in the coming weeks to secure a UEFA Champions League spot.”
