Ole Gunnar Solskjaer job safety if Man U loses to Liverpool and Man City revealed
Manchester United will not sack under-fire manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, according to reports, even if they lose to rivals Liverpool and Manchester City.
The Red Devils have won just one of their last five games in all competitions and face a dreadful run of Premier League and European fixtures.
Following the team’s 4-2 defeat at Leicester on Saturday afternoon, United have given Solskjaer their full support, according to the Daily Star.
Senior figures at Old Trafford are said to have privately told the Norwegian coach that they have “complete faith in him” ahead of a crucial few weeks.
Before an away trip to Watford in November, United is scheduled to play Liverpool, Tottenham, City, and Atalanta twice.
Following that, Solskjaer’s team will face Villarreal, Chelsea, and Arsenal before their schedule eases up just before Christmas.
If United’s results don’t go their way, they could be knocked out of the Champions League and fall several points behind their title rivals.
During the summer, the club spent nearly £140 million on the squad, focusing heavily on Jadon Sancho, Raphael Varane, and Cristiano Ronaldo.
In July, the United board also gave Solskjaer a three-year contract extension worth a reported £25 million, with the option of an additional year.
Fans have been calling for the manager’s dismissal on social media, and midfielder Paul Pogba has expressed his displeasure following the team’s defeat to Leicester.
In recent weeks, several former United players, including his old teammate Gary Neville, have backed Solskjaer to keep his job as manager.
The ex-England defender told Instagram Live on Tuesday: “The club won’t sack him. The club will stick with him.
“The fact that they’ve had those experiences with [David] Moyes and with Jose and [Louis] Van Gaal, I think they’ll stick to plan.
“Ole is under pressure but they won’t sack him, there’s no doubt about that. I know that won’t please some of you. I know some of you want a new manager.
“I’ve never asked for a Premier League manager to be sacked in the 11 years since I stopped playing football and that’s not going to happen now.
“Let’s not panic here. There’s no need to panic. Everyone will want Manchester United to panic. There’s nothing that can be fixed in the next 10 minutes. Stick to plan, get through the season, see what happens this season.
“Obviously if then there isn’t a trophy or it continues to go as it is, then Ole will come under great pressure. He knows that, having been in the job for three-and-a-half years at that time.”
