Ole Gunnar Solskjaer furious at Manchester United board as he refuses to step down

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is refusing to step down as Manchester United manager, and he’s ‘frustrated’ that he hasn’t received more credit for the job he’s done.

Despite humiliating defeats to Manchester City and Liverpool in recent weeks, the Norwegian is expected to be in charge for Saturday’s trip to Watford.

United are sixth in the league, nine points behind leaders Chelsea. Solskjaer has lost the support of large swaths of the squad, with senior players like Cristiano Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes said to be particularly irritated.

Following the defeat to Pep Guardiola’s men, Rio Ferdinand suggested Solskjaer resign, saying it’s time for the ‘baton to be handed over.’

“I was always deep down a bit sceptical. Could he take us on to be champions? I wasn’t fully convinced, I hoped he would be able to do that. But what I’ve seen this season I just feel it might be the time now for the baton to be handed over to somebody else who can take us on now,” said Ferdinand.

According to the Sun, Solskjaer has no intention of leaving the Theatre of Dreams and is confident that he can turn things around.

Furthermore, Solskjaer is said to be irritated that his reign is only being judged by the start of this season, and he believes that people are forgetting his success.

In Solskjaer’s two full seasons as manager, United finished third and second, respectively, and lost in the Europa League final to Villarreal last season.

Solskjaer believes he has earned enough credit to see him through this difficult period, but failure to qualify for the last-16 of the Champions League would almost certainly result in his dismissal.

Brendan Rodgers is reportedly the board’s preferred replacement for Solskjaer, but the Norwegian may be given until the end of the season to see if he can turn things around.
