Official: Chelsea sack Graham Potter – 48 hours before Liverpool match – club statement

Chelsea have fired manager Graham Potter just 48 hours before their Premier League match against Liverpool.

Potter has been in charge at Stamford Bridge for less than seven months, having been appointed in September following the dismissal of Thomas Tuchel by new owner Todd Boehly.

The Blues enter Tuesday’s match against Liverpool in 11th place in the Premier League standings after suffering a 2-0 loss to Aston Villa on Saturday.

Potter had supervised 31 games, winning only 12 of them across all competitions.

Sunday evening, Chelsea announced the dismissal, with former Brighton midfielder Bruno Saltor taking temporary charge.

It is the second dismissal on Sunday, following Leicester City’s dismissal of Brendan Rodgers earlier in the day.

Chelsea Club Statement after sacking Graham Potter Club

Co-controlling owners Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali said: ‘On behalf of everyone at the club, we want to thank Graham sincerely for his contribution to Chelsea. We have the highest degree of respect for Graham as a coach and as a person. He has always conducted himself with professionalism and integrity and we are all disappointed in this outcome.

‘Along with our incredible fans, we will all be getting behind Bruno and the team as we focus on the rest of the season. We have 10 Premier League games remaining and a Champions League quarter final ahead. We will put every effort and commitment into every one of those games so that we can end the season on a high.’
