‘Not good for me’ – Nigeria-eligible striker clarifies why he rejected Liverpool move

Kevin Schade, a German under-21 player with Nigerian roots, has given an explanation for rejecting an opportunity to join Liverpool, one of the big teams in the English Premier League, during the January transfer window.

Instead, he decided to join Brentford on loan until the end of the 2022-2023 season.

Schade, who is eligible to play for the Nigerian national team, is expected to sign a five-year contract with Brentford in the summer for a club-record undisclosed fee.

Kevin Schade had a remarkable 2021-2022 season, scoring four goals in 21 Bundesliga games before getting injured. He also played an important role in Germany’s U21 national team, contributing to five goals in his first four games. With his speed, aerial ability, scoring prowess, and versatility, the 21-year-old has the necessary qualities to thrive in the Premier League.

Schade has disclosed that he turned down Liverpool’s offer because he wasn’t assured of playing time at the team that has won the European championship six times.

Speaking to Brentford’s match programme, Schade explained : “Brentford wanted me. They really wanted me. It’s a good step. It’s a Premier League club who are doing really well at the moment.

“To go to somewhere like Liverpool is not good for me because I would not play.

“Fresh from an injury, I need time and games to be 100 per cent fit.”

Since joining Brentford, Schade has played in five matches, which include his debuts in both the Premier League and FA Cup, at the Gtech Community Stadium.
