‘No way!’ – Darren Bent tells Chelsea player he wouldn’t get in the Arsenal team
Former England striker Darren Bent has informed Chelsea forward Raheem Sterling that he wouldn’t be able to secure a place in Arsenal’s team.
Raheem Sterling is a prominent football player who has scored over 100 goals in the Premier League, which is a feat achieved by only 33 players. He has played for Liverpool, Manchester City, and now Chelsea.
Sterling had a prosperous seven-year stint at Manchester City, where he scored 131 goals and won four league titles.
His move to Chelsea in the summer of 2021 was anticipated to be a continuation of his impressive form. However, Sterling has not lived up to expectations, managing to score only four goals in 18 Premier League matches for Chelsea.
There have been rumors that Raheem Sterling may leave Chelsea in the upcoming summer transfer window due to his underwhelming performances, but his agent has denied these claims.
Despite this, Arsenal has been suggested as a potential destination for the English forward, given their interest in him in the past and his uncertain future at Chelsea.
However, Darren Bent, a former England striker, believes that while Sterling has been an exceptional player over the past decade, he would not be able to displace Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli in the current Arsenal team based on his current form.
Responding to a caller on talkSPORT who said Sterling would ‘walk into’ the Arsenal team, Bent said: “That’s ridiculous.
“How does he walk into a side who are top of the Premier League? All the front-three are playing well. Martinelli is Arsenal’s joint-top goalscorer.
“Looking at Raheem Sterling’s form this season, he doesn’t walk into Arsenal’s front-three, no way. Arsenal’s front-three are flying. We’re not talking about a peak Sterling here.
“Arsenal’s forwards are flying. Sterling doesn’t make Arsenal stronger right now, Arsenal’s current front-three are playing better than Sterling.
“Martinelli and Saka are playing really well, better than Sterling. So why would you change that?”
Additionally, Bent pointed out that Raheem Sterling may encounter a difficulty if he chooses to depart from Chelsea after the current season because there could be limited options available for him as a forward.
The ex-Premier League striker added: “The problem is, where would he go?”
“He can’t go back to Man City, he wouldn’t go back to Liverpool, Man United wouldn’t take him. I think Newcastle and Spurs are the two you would look at maybe.”
As Arsenal has surged ahead by five points at the top of the Premier League table, Chelsea has suffered a poor run under Graham Potter, slipping 14 points behind the Champions League spots.
Chelsea, as well as Raheem Sterling, will have a chance to bounce back in their next match against Leeds United, who are struggling to avoid relegation, at home on Saturday.
