‘No chance’ – Wesley Fofana says Chelsea teammate is faster than PSG star Kylian Mbappe
Wesley Fofana, the Chelsea footballer, has stated that one of his teammates is faster than Kylian Mbappe, the PSG striker who has earned praise for his speed and has become one of the world’s best players due to his quick thinking and technical ability.
Fofana previously played against Mbappe during his time at Saint-Etienne, where he was tasked with defending against him.
Although they haven’t played against each other recently, there are reports that Fofana may receive a call-up to the France senior squad, potentially allowing them to play on the same team.
It is possible that Fofana may be able to evaluate Mbappe’s speed once again, as he has claimed that one of his Chelsea teammates, Mykhailo Mudryk, is faster than the PSG forward.
Mudryk was signed by Chelsea in January for a whopping £88.5 million from Shakhtar Donetsk and has shown a lot of potential in his early appearances for the club.
During a challenge on the Chelsea YouTube channel, Mudryk was asked to guess the FIFA video game statistics on his card, and he claimed that he would have the highest pace rating.
The host then asked Fofana if Mudryk was the fastest player he had ever played against.
“Yeah,” replied the former Leicester City man, before Benoit Badiashile hit back with: “And Mbappe?” Fofana seemed adamant, hitting back with: “No chance [Mbappe is faster]. It’s finished.”
The fact that Mudryk may be faster than Mbappe may not come as a surprise to some, especially considering the comparisons that Mudryk received to the PSG striker before his move to Chelsea.
Former Shakhtar Donetsk coach Mircea Lucescu was among those who made the claim, believing that there were clear similarities between the two players.
“Mudryk is a copy of Mbappe,” Lucescu told reporter Emanuel Rosu back in January ahead of the switch. “It will be great to see him play at a higher stage than he is right now. His qualities and perspectives can’t be questioned.”
It is yet to be seen if Mudryk can achieve the same level of success as Mbappe at such a young age, but if he does, then Chelsea has an exceptional player in their squad.
