N’Golo Kante injury latest as Chelsea manager Graham Potter explains plan
Graham Potter, the manager of Chelsea, has disclosed the strategy of the team to assist N’Golo Kante in his recuperation during the international hiatus.
The 31-year-old midfielder made a comeback to the Blues’ squad for the first time since August, in the 2-2 draw with Everton on Saturday.
Kante had been out of action after sustaining an injury during the second game of the season against Tottenham, and a relapse had further prolonged his recovery period.
Kante has been back in training in the past few weeks and was included on the bench as a substitute during Saturday’s match at Stamford Bridge, but he did not play.
Instead, he will continue to stay at Cobham, Chelsea’s training ground, during the international break in preparation for a potential comeback against Aston Villa.
Potter disclosed the course of action for the recovery of the Frenchman during the forthcoming break, following the draw with Everton on Saturday.
“N’Golo’s due to carry on training Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday with potentially a game to give him some minutes,” Potter explained.
Asked whether a potential fixture would be versus an internal or external opposition, the Chelsea boss said: “We’re still planning it but I think it will probably be internal. That will be good.
“We need to control it as much as we can and then I think we’ve got about four players [not on international duty], so it is what it is. We have to hope players come back injury free and that we use the break to refresh and prepare for a really hectic April.”
At minimum, the Blues have 13 games remaining in their season, and their main emphasis is on the Champions League. Chelsea needs to defeat Real Madrid and then either Manchester City or Bayern Munich to make it to the final in Istanbul in June.
