Neymar reveals his stance on PSG stay amid £76.6m Chelsea transfer links
This summer, Chelsea will have one of the most momentous transfer windows in their recent history.
Not only will they need to buy defensive reinforcements to replace Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen, but it will also be the club’s first without Roman Abramovich in 19 years.
If the Blues are to reduce the gap on Manchester City and Liverpool, new owner Todd Boehly must be prepared to overhaul their roster.
And one area where manager Thomas Tuchel is expected to bring quality is in attack.
In recent seasons, the club has signed a slew of forward players, although Hakim Ziyech, Christian Pulisic, and Timo Werner have all struggled for form and consistency.
As a result, several Blues stars are rumoured to be on their way out of Stamford Bridge, with Paris Saint-Germain winger Neymar being mentioned as a possible replacement.
After PSG signed Kylian Mbappe to a new three-year contract, it was suggested that the Ligue 1 champions may want to take a different approach, one that focuses on young French talent – a mould that 30-year-old Neymar does not fit, prompting speculation that the Brazilian winger could leave the Parc des Princes this summer.
However, Neymar has dismissed speculation that he is on his way out of Paris. When asked if he plans to continue at PSG and compete in the Champions League next season, he told Canal Football Club: “It has to be with Paris. I have a contract with PSG, so there are no other possible choices. Yes it will be with Paris Saint-Germain.”
Last season, Neymar was limited to 22 Ligue 1 games due to injuries. However, after joining PSG from Barcelona in the summer of 2017, he has appeared in 144 games, scoring a century of goals and accumulating 60 assists.
He is under contract with the French champions until June 2025, but it is unclear whether the rumoured change in direction/philosophy would result in his departure. PSG is expected to seek roughly €90 million (£76.6 million) for his services.
