Newcastle’s Trippier discloses what he told Kevin De Bruyne following red card incident in Man City draw

Kieran Trippier has revealed that he apologized to Kevin De Bruyne after catching him with a high tackle in Sunday’s thrilling 3-3 draw between Manchester City and Newcastle United.

Manchester City  100% start to their Premier League title defense came to an end at St. James’ Park, but they were fortunate to escape with a point on a bad day.

The Magpies took a 3-1 lead shortly after the break, but Pep Guardiola’s side came back with two goals in a four-minute spell to draw the game.

After the equalizer, City were looking for a winner and appeared to have a good chance when De Bruyne began breaking quickly after a Newcastle corner.

However, the Belgian was brought down in full flow by a desperate Trippier, who caught him with his boot on the knee.

The right-back, who had scored the third goal with a stunning free-kick, was shown a red card for the foul, but the decision was reversed after consulting VAR.

Trippier apologized for his foul but stated that he never goes into a tackle to injure a player.

“I would sacrifice everything for my team,” Trippier told Sky Sports.

“I want to win but I’m not the type of player to injure anyone. I was speaking to Kev [De Bruyne] after the game, I apologies for it, but it’s my team and I want to win.

“I never go into a tackle to injure a player, I want to make that clear, and the referee overturned it.”

City appeared to be in for another easy afternoon when Ilkay Gundogan put them ahead after only five minutes, but it soon became clear that this would not be the case.

Newcastle rattled them and deservedly took the lead thanks to goals from Miguel Almiron, Callum Wilson, and Trippier.

However, Erling Haaland and Bernardo Silva both scored to lift their team out of the quagmire.
