New ‘favourite’ for Tottenham job disclosed as Spurs ‘risk missing out’ on Pochettino

According to reports, Tottenham may lose out on hiring Mauricio Pochettino to Real Madrid if they don’t take action soon. There are widespread reports that Spurs chairman Daniel Levy plans to dismiss Antonio Conte during the international break, and internal discussions on the terms of his departure are now taking place.

This decision follows Conte’s criticism of his “selfish” players and the Tottenham board for the club’s culture after their 3-3 draw with Southampton, during which they surrendered a two-goal lead late in the game, allowing Ruben Selles’ side to claim a draw with goals from Theo Walcott and James Ward-Prowse.

Despite still occupying fourth place in the Premier League, Tottenham faces a challenge from Newcastle United, who are only two points behind and have two games in hand on Conte’s side. Reports suggest that Tottenham chairman, Daniel Levy, is considering appointing Ryan Mason as interim manager until they find a suitable long-term replacement for Conte.

However, there are concerns that Tottenham may miss out on the opportunity to rehire former manager Mauricio Pochettino, who is reportedly high on Real Madrid’s shortlist in the event that Carlo Ancelotti departs the Spanish club this summer.

Tottenham is currently discussing potential replacements for Conte, but they could face competition for Pochettino’s services in the summer.

Tottenham would prefer to appoint a permanent replacement for Conte immediately, with Pochettino, Luis Enrique, and Thomas Tuchel all currently without work.

In addition to Real Madrid, other major European football clubs such as Bayern Munich, PSG, Juventus, and Inter Milan may also be looking for new managers in the summer, which could disrupt Tottenham’s search for a new manager.

The Daily Record suggests that Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is considering Brentford manager Thomas Frank as a potential replacement for Conte. However, there were concerns about Ange Postecoglou’s future as Celtic’s manager, with reports that Levy might prefer to hire a proven winner.

Nevertheless, Levy is reportedly more inclined towards a project manager like Frank, Postecoglou, or Brighton’s Roberto De Zerbi.

Meanwhile, Tottenham player Dejan Kulusevski has responded positively to Conte’s criticism of the team, stating that he will respect his words.

When asked if he was offended by the criticism from Conte, Kulusevski replied: “No, because I know what I bring to the team every day, I know that I prepare myself to do as good as I can. That’s why I can always look at myself in the mirror, you know?

“Sometimes I know I don’t play good enough and I can take responsibility for that but what he said, it’s for him, that’s his word. But I respect him, he helped me a lot during my career so he’s still a very important man in our club and in my world.

“He was very disappointed as are the players, we have to accept that. We lost [in] all the cups, we went out in Champions League also [at the round-of-16 stage], so I know that sometimes we have to be sad and angry. That’s how he took it, somebody else would take it another way. We have to respect his words.”
