“Negotiations are progressing very well” – Fabrizio Romano shares exciting Chelsea update

According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea are nearing a big-money deal for RB Leipzig star Christopher Nkunku, with ‘negotiations progressing very well’ at Stamford Bridge.

Graham Potter, who was appointed head coach of the Blues in September, will have the opportunity to bolster his squad during the January transfer window.

According to respected Italian journalist Romano, Chelsea are “really close” to luring Nkunku to the Premier League.

According to 90min, the west Londoners are confident they have a deal in place for the attacker, who could join as early as January.

According to the report, Chelsea are willing to pay more than the eight-cap France international’s £58 million release clause, which becomes active next summer, in order to spread the fee over several years.

Nkunku had previously signed a pre-contract agreement with Chelsea, with the club seeing him as an important part of the rebuild at Stamford Bridge.

The 25-year-old has already had a medical, having traveled to Frankfurt, Germany, ahead of a possible move in September.

What Fabrizio Romano has said about Nkunku

Romano understands that Chelsea have developed a strong relationship with Leipzig and that a large-money transfer is being discussed.

The journalist is aware that the Blues are nearing an agreement ahead of the reopening of the transfer window at the end of the year.

Romano told GIVEMESPORT: “Chelsea have a very good relationship with Leipzig, so they negotiated over a potential fee because Chelsea are not triggering the clause.

“They are discussing a fee with Leipzig worth around £60million, with different kinds of payment terms. Negotiations are progressing very well and the deal is almost ready.”
